Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week I would say I have the report that everyone has been waiting for so lets get right to it. We will start right off with the topic of mahi mahi. The mahi have been showing up in some impressive numbers right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, right now if your heading offshore the key to success with the mahi is going to be to look for signs of life, it is such large ocean and you can only cover so much ground in a full day trip so if you can find birds your going to narrow down exactly where you need to be. Also any type of floating debris is going to be like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. If you happen to get into a school of mahi it is absolutely critical to make sure you have spinning rods rigged up and plenty of cut bait to throw to the hungry mahi, live bait is always going to be the best choice, but if no live bait is available small ballyhoo as well as squid works well too. One other thing id like to point out with the mahi is when your in a school its so important to keep some fish in the water because if you dont the other mahi around the boat will leave. I would say a good place to start looking for the mahi is around 7 miles offshore but they have been as far as 20 miles but it is safe to say they are HERE! Other then mahi on the inshore side the trolling bite has been just epic. Plenty of nice sized kingfish on the edge of the reef right now and some bonitos mixed in, the kingfish have been biting best early in the mornings before the sun gets high and the temperatures heat up, also seems right now that the deeper the bites the bigger the kingfish for example 100 feet of water the fish have been smaller then if you happen to get a bite out in 200 feet. We have a nice picture of a kingfish we caught this week that was close to 40lbs (pictured). In the later afternoons on the deeper side of the reef there has been some blackfin tunasl, our lines fished under the surface using planners have been seeing the best action some of the tunas have been as big as 15lbs. Last but not least I would like to point out that we have been seeing a nice little flurry of some summer time sailfish which is always welcomed. Most of the sailfish bites have been coming on the surface with mylar skirts and fresh bonito strips in depths inside of 200 feet. This week please make sure to check out some of the great pictures of some recent catches we had while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. As we get deeper and deeper into the month of August the fishing will continue to stay very good plenty of fish on the reef and plenty of mahii offshore which gives options for everyone. For the rest of the month we have some availability so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing or if your a loyal follower thats been waiting for the mahi bite to turn on I would say now is the time, we would love to have you out fishing with us and show you a great time on the water.
