Spring Break Deep Sea Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Spring Break Deep Sea Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a busy week it has been for us here in Fort Lauderdale, plenty of fishing and that means I have a very accurate report for you guys. So this week we have had somewhat nice weather for the most part calmer seas and light winds which would be right on par for spring time fishing patterns. Anyways lets get to the report, this week fishing on the reef has for sure picked up from what it has been, but of course it is fishing and you are going to have slow days and great days. Right on the reef I would say the sailfish action has been on, I can confidently say that most days we have been living baiting specifically for sailfish we have been either catching one or getting a few shots. Kite fishing has been the best technique specially if the wind allows for it. Still the bait of choice would be goggle eyes if they are available but a close runner up would be live mullet. Anywhere from depths of 120 feet on out to 180 feet seems to be the sweet spot for sailfish right now. On days that there has been not enough wind to go kite fishing, taking the time to catch live ballyhoo has been paying off big time. Live ballyhoo are fragile baits and we fish them on super light tackle and they are a staple diet of most predator fish specially off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Other then sailfish the blackfin tuna bite seems to be getting somewhat very consistent, some days we have been catching them in the early morning as well as the late afternoons too. The go to bait is a small squid lure fished on the surface with light leader and fished way I mean WAY behind the boat. Tuna are very wary of boats and the noise they make so the further back behind the boat your lures are the more bites you usually get. There has been a few bonito mixed in with the tuna as well. Bottom fishing has been good this week when the conditions allow for it, earlier in the week we were just coming off a full moon with super strong tide so we didn’t bottom fish much, as we get further and further away from the moon the tides have been slowing down so we have been doing some more bottom fishing. As of late some nice vermillion snappers and a few jumbo lane snappers as well on most bottom fishing spots. 200 feet seems to be the sweet spot for now, average size on the snappers has been anywhere from 1-4lbs. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up looks like some pretty decent weather on the horizon and fishing has begun to change for the better. Im thinking here soon we will start to see some kingfish on the reef as well as some big game sharks cruising around on the surface. Soon the blackfin tunas will improve in size as well as a few wahoo in the mix too. Lots to look forward too! For the rest of the month of March we have a few spots left but for April we have plenty of availably so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to show you a good time on the water…

March Madness In Fort Lauderdale

March Madness In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week we had some great weather and finally some pretty great fishing, in my opinion anyways. This weeks report we will start on the reef where earlier in the week we had some windy conditions and still some what of a decent sailfish bite, anywhere from 130-200 feet seems to be the best area right now to target sailfish, live bait is a must! Kite fishing with live mullet and live goggle eyes was our bait of choice, other then sailfish there still has been a few stray kingfish with live bait. The hot bite has been the afternoons for balckfin tuna, earlier in the week we had some really pretty blue water right off the coast of fort Lauderdale and some pretty strong northern currents and that is a great recipe for balckfin tuna. Majority of our bites have been on the deep lines but we have been doing fairly well on a small tuna feather fished way back on the Captains highline rod and that has been doing very well. Tuna are very shy of boats and usually the further away from the boat you fish your lines the more bites you get. Average size on the tuna this week have been a little bigger then normal around 10lbs or so. We did manage to get the needle in the hay stack this week and Catch a beautiful wahoo around 35lbs (pictured). Larger wahoo like that are eating the blackfin tuna and if they come across your bait odds are you will get the bite. Afternoons always seem to be best for tuna but we have been catching some in the early mornings as well. In the mornings the tuna have been deeper in depths around 400 feet but in the afternoon 200 feet seems to be the magic number. Bottom fishing this week has been solid we didn’t do much of it because the tunas have been biting but the days that we did we were successful. Vermillion snappers was the primary catch with an occasional porgy, most of the bottom fishing spots around 300 feet have been the most consistent specially for the larger snappers around 3-4lbs. This week please take a look at some of the great photos we have of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For this week coming up we have some great weather, I’m hopeful for the tuna to be a consistent thing for the next few weeks as well as a few wahoo around with the full moon we have coming up, we did have a cold front just come through last night so that did slow the fishing down a little but I would imagine here in the next few days for something to break like I always say when you have steady conditions patterns form and that seems to be what we have coming up. If your coming to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we have availability for the rest of the month of march and we would love to put you on some fish and show you a great time on the water. More later…

Sailfish Are Starting To Show In Fort Lauderdale

Sailfish Are Starting To Show In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week has been a busy one for us here lots of fishing. Some days fishing has been very good and other days been so tough. As for the report this week, Sailfish has been the topic for discussion. We recently had a nice cold front with some hard north east winds that brought a bunch of fish with it. The sailfish bite was red hot for a few days and kite fishing with live bait was the way to go. If you didn’t have live bait you weren’t getting many bites that for sure. Just on the outside of the reef in 130 feet seemed to be the sweet spot, kite fishing with 2 kites and 2 live baits on each kite is our go to spread when live baiting. We had a great day last week kite fishing where we went 3 for 5 on sailfish in a 6 hour morning trip as well as fighting a small hammerhead shark for quite some time. Most of the sailfish this week were anywhere from 50-80lbs. Other then sailfish there has been a few king mackeral as well but mostly on the live baits too, the king mackeral can be hard to hook on live bait because of the way they bite the bait, kings are a slashing fish so there trying to cut your bait in half in order to eat it. Sometimes you get the bites but don’t always hook up. it can be very frustrating. Trolling has been producing a few kingfish as well as some larger bonitos. If your looking to troll the afternoon seems to be consistent with blackfin tuna the later in the afternoon the better, sea witches and bonito strips have been getting some bites as well as my go to small spoon. I would say right now anytime after 330pm has been when there tunas have been biting the best. Bottom fishing this week has been hit and miss as well, I can honestly say when the conditions are right we have been doing well and what I mean by right conditions is wind going with the current. Some of the days the wind has been into the current and that makes it almost impossible to set the boat up the correct way on some of the spots. On the days we have been doing well bottom fishing the catch has mostly been vermillion snappers anywhere from 2-4lbs. This week please check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Coming up here seems like we have another front approaching for the next few days with heavy winds, so I’m thinking we should get another run of sailfish here as well as some nicer king mackeral and possibly a few mahi so be on the look out for that in future reports. For the next few weeks into march we have some availability so if your coming down to fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love for you to come out with us so we can show you a great time on the water. more later…. Quality Bottom Fish In Fort Lauderdale

Quality Bottom Fish In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, so for this week in Fort Lauderdale seems like fishing has been picking up for the better which would be right on par for spring time. Starting off trolling the reef it has been somewhat quiet but there has been kind of a consistent bite with some kingfish in depths around 100 feet. Trolling with switches and planers is always our go to and the best choice of baits has been a pink seawitch on our long planer side and a chartreuse on our short side, fresh bonito is hard to come by right now so we have been using mostly frozen bonito strips but we also have been fishing a double hook ballyhoo and that has been getting some of the bigger kings. Kite fishing has been picking up as well right now, majority of our kingfish have been being caught with live bait fished from a kite, live goggle eyes have been the baits of choice. The kingfish have been anywhere from 10-30lbs with the live baits. Moving offshore there has been a few stray mahi around like last weeks report. No rhyme or reason as to why they all have been random, but some nice size ones around 10lbs give or take. The afternoons still have been producing black fin tunas and smaller bonitos, some days better then others. The small spoon continues to be my number one choice, specially if your just looking to get some bites. Small squid lures on the surface have been a good choice as well. The further back you fish your lures the more bites. Last but not least, bottom fishing has been steady and seems to be our saving grace. This week we had some great conditions earlier in the week and were able to fish a few spots that we are not able to hit because we need those picture perfect conditions. Dropping some live baits on deeper bottom spots produced a beautiful trophy red snapper that was 26lbs (pictured). We don’t catch many red snapper in our area like the gulf side so when we do its always special. Also this week we did catch for our area a Bahamas sized yellow eye snapper around 6lbs (pictured). Definitely some true quality, other then that when the conditions allow bottom fishing has been good on most bottom spots around 250-300 feet. Mostly vermillion snappers but some nice yellow eyes mixed in here and there and if luck is on your side possibly a jumbo red snapper too. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Spring is right around the corner and that usually brings lots of fish. We were out today and the sailfish action was on, so that is a huge positive, I think the cold front that we just had was the one we needed to get the fish moving, other then sailfish the kingfish action should remain steady all the way through the summer, as well as some of our bigger blackfin tunas moving through the area. Lots to look forward to in future reports. If your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we have plenty of availability for the upcoming month of march, look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. Spring Is Almost Here In Fort Lauderdale

Spring Is Almost Here In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report if definitely better then last weeks we are starting to see a little bit more action. This week trolling on the reef has been tough not many bites, a few king mackeral in the early mornings and some smaller bonitos. Kite fishing with live bait has been the best method to get some quality fish on the reef like smoker kings. Most of the action has been in the deeper waters around 200 to 300 feet. There has been a few stray mahi mahi still around no rhyme or reason as to why but the ones that have been around have been very good size. Most of the mahis have been just random but some have been coming on small pieces of seaweed as well as some birds, so keep that in mind while trolling. Other then mahi this week, the most consistent bite for trolling has been the afternoon blackfin tuna. Like I always preach in all my reports when the weather is consistent day in and day out the fishing is going to be right behind it. The afternoon black fin tunas have been biting best in depths around 200 feet of water. Smaller lures are still going to be the best choice, but you can get some bigger ones on bigger baits. The small spoon is still my go to choice right now because the size of the bait appeals to all fish. There was a few wahoo biting as well in those depths this week but unfortunately we were not lucky enough to get one, there should be a little flurry of wahoo just after this full moon so be on the look out for some great wahoo pics in future reports. Sailfishing has been slow, there has not been many caught this week I’m unsure as to why, I’m thinking we are going to have a big push in spring time I hope, but for now that fishery has been quiet. Last but not least bottom fishing reminds stellar for fish like vermillion snappers as well as porgies. This week we had some larger snappers around 3 and 4 pounds, I know that doesn’t seem big for saltwater fish but for these species that only get max size around 5lbs its giant, not to mention some of the best eating around. 250 feet seems to be the magic number right now for snapper fishing as long as the current and winds are light I am able to position the boat accordingly to maximize bites. This week please check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale, and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For the next few weeks coming up I would expect we will start to see some king mackeral move into the area as well as the blackfin tunas to continue to stay consistent, wreck fishing for hard fighters like amberjacks should begin to pick up as well. Also don’t forget the migration of large game sharks through our area. Lots to look forward to as spring time approaches, somewhat of a busy week on the horizon but we still have plenty of availability for the rest of the month of February and March so if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to how you a great time on the water.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing In February

Fort Lauderdale Fishing In February

Hello everyone, Capt Vinnie here, sorry to everyone who always looks forward to my weekly report but last week was super tough fishing and I didnt have much to report, but that being said looks like this week is starting to head in a positive direction. All this crazy weather we have been having with a cold front every other day and cooler temps has been throwing the fish through a loop I feel, you need steady conditions for some type of pattern to form. On the bright side for the report this week fishing has begun to pick up specially the trolling bite, on the inshore side of things there has been a few really nice mahi mahi around in the early mornings. There has been a few tide rips and scattered weed lines just outside of the reef that the mahi have been on, if you can find some birds working the rips and the weeds thats going to be as good of a guarantee as you can get for the mahi right now, the mahi have been really good size mostly what we call gaffer fish anywhere from 8-15lbs. Surface baits have been the most productive, fresh bonito strips fished with a mylar seawitch as well as a naked ballyhoo is my go to. You can also get lucky and catch a few mahi just random but if you find whats mentioned previous your chances are improved greatly. Afternoon tuna bite remains super steady right now anywhere from 200-400 feet, trolling remains to be the best technique if your looking for tuna, baits fished under the surface seem to get the most action being most tuna feed under the surface specially when the sun is high. We use planners to take the baits below the surface and right into the strike zone, the last few cold fronts we have had have made the shrimp run in Miami and just north of Fort Lauderdale in deerfield beach, alot of the tuna we have been catching have had shrimp in there bellies, shrimp have a pink tint to them so majority of the bites we have been getting have been on pink lures. Small pink spoons as well as pink squid lures have been the best. Its always best to try and match what the gamefish are eating and use that information to your advantage it will greatly increase your odds in catching more fish. Average size on the tuna have been anywhere from 5-8lbs but there has been some larger ones up tp 15lbs around. Bottom fishing report has been our saving grace when the fishing is slow, for me its all about producing fish for my customers and sometimes if nothing is biting but bottom fish then so be it, thats what I will do to make sure everyone goes home with some dinner. Vermillion snappers have been the main catch on the bottom right now but we did release some red groupers earlier in the week, they open season again in May. The vermillion snappers have been very good size this week averaging around 2lbs with some up to 3.5lbs. 200 feet of water on natural structure seems to be the sweet spot right now but that changes daily with tides and currents. Other then vermillion snappers we have been catching a few lane snapper, mutton snapper and large trigger fish. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfsihing for daily fishing content. For the next few days looks like some excellent weather approaching as well as steady conditions, lets just say I have high hopes! We recently started to get some nice northern current which usually brings fish with it, if these conditions end up staying for a few days the fishing will turn on major, should be some sailfish start to showing up as well as possibly a few nice wahoo as we approach the full moon, lots to look forward to like I said high hopes! If your thinking about coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we have plenty of availability for the month of February and fishing is beginning to heat up, so please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. more later… Capt.
