Tuna Fishing
ABOUT TUNA FISHING
Catching tuna in South Florida with YB Normal Sportfishing Charters in Fort Lauderdale gives anglers the chance to target several exciting species. Depending on the season and conditions,
you may encounter albacore, yellowfin, and occasionally even bluefin tuna.
The most abundant species off Fort Lauderdale, however, is the blackfin tuna — available year-round and a favorite among local anglers.
Blackfin tuna typically range from 2 to 20 pounds, though some impressive fish can exceed 40 pounds. While there may be faster swimmers in the ocean, pound for pound, Blackfin tuna are
among the hardest fighters you’ll hook. Their speed, endurance, and tight circles under the boat make every battle exciting.
These fish can be found anywhere from within a mile of the beach to far offshore, depending on bait, currents, and water temperature.
The crew uses three primary techniques to target Blackfin tuna. Trolling:
We troll with small offshore lures, feathers, spoons, deep-diving plugs, and rigged baits such as ballyhoo or strip baits.
Drifting:
Drifting productive areas allows anglers to present baits naturally in the strike zone.
Still-Fishing & Chumming:
Blackfin respond well to live chum such as pilchards or small baitfish. Chumming can quickly bring tuna to the boat and create steady action.
Blackfin tuna are prized for their outstanding food quality. They’re incredibly versatile — perfect for grilling, pan-searing, or enjoying raw in sushi and sashimi.
Whether you’re a first-time angler or a seasoned offshore veteran, tuna fishing in Fort Lauderdale offers fast action and delicious rewards!
