Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here from the command center. Its been another great week of deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale. I have a great report this week starting of with tuna. We have been having some really nice catches of blackfin tuna while trolling just on the drop off. This week we did manage to catch a blackfin tuna that was 31lbs (pictured) which is the biggest one caught aboard to YB Normal. The blackfin tuna bite right now has been the best in the afternoon time with bigger fish being caught on live bait, while trolling produces all sizes. Anywhere from 200-350 feet has been the best depths. Other then tuna this week we had a decent showing of mahi mahi offshore trolling. Some of the mahi where very nice sized around 10lbs give or take. Looking for birds has always been the ticket when mahi fishing although there has been a good amount of seaweed out there and that is a good place to start. As we get closer to the summer months i believe the mahi fishing will only get better from here. Moving inshore, earlier in the week we had a great kingfish bite. When the water is green in color that seems to be when they bite the best. When the water is blue they are hard to find. Mixed in with the kingfish has been some jumbo bonitos starting to show up although they are not good eating they are the most important thing to our deep sea fishing charters. They give us fresh bait which in return helps you catch more fish. Also on the reef this week we did see a few sailfish which is always great to catch, they are a lot more prevalent in the winter months but we do catch them year round. Catching a sailfish is always a great way to put the icing on the cake as they say to any sport fishing charter. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here back with another great Fort Lauderdale deep sea fishing report for you this week. So this week we didn’t get out as much as we had liked because we were doing some minor repairs on the engine which happens when you fish as much as we do, on the good news we are fixed and have a bunch of bookings coming up. The few days that we did fish this week were great and thats to be expected this time of year. As for the report this week we had some really great dolphin fishing earlier in the week around 10 miles offshore there was a very nice weed line with plenty of life, but just recently the wind had changed to a North West which is very rare for this time of year and that weed line broke apart which in turn made the dolphin fishing almost non existent for now but they should begin to pick back up later in the weeks coming up. Moving inshore a little bit when the conditions are right the blackfin tuna have been biting very well, early mornings and late afternoons, which have been the best time to get out. Fishing with live bait has been the best way to catch the biggest ones. We did manage to catch a blackfin tuna this week that was 31lbs which is the largest one ever caught on the YB Normal. Other then blackfin tuna we did see a pretty good showing of wahoo this week. Wahoo is a fan favorite to catch as well as to eat, I personally think that wahoo is one of the best fish to eat that we catch. Making sushi with it being the best. Last but not least the kingfish have showed up in good numbers trolling the reef with fresh bonito strips, its been quite a while since kingfish have been around in any type of numbers. Kingfish make good table fair and are a lot of fun to catch, but keep in mind they do not hold up well if frozen. Pretty much the only thing you can do with them after you freeze them is smoke them for fish dip. Hey there, Capt. Vinnie here with the YB Normal. For this week I have a great report for you, the theme continues as of last weeks report with excellent fishing. This week we had some great weather to go along with our deep sea fishing. To start it off the trolling bite has began to be very productive for species like kingfish. They have begun to show up in larger numbers just off the coast in shallow depths from 80-140 feet. Majority of the fish have been smaller sized but thats to be expected with the first wave of fish, they should continue to get larger as we get closer to summer. Staying on the reef the sailfish seem to have taken a break, although it is getting to the end of there season some fish will stay around for a while and some will leave, kite fishing wont be as common of a way to target the sailfish it will mostly transition to trolling baits. Moving a little bit deeper the blackfin tuna bite has been very steady recently when the water is blue to purple color. Some days the water is green and those days tuna are hard to come by. When we have blue water usually that means north current which would be a spin off of gulfstream water and those days we seem to have the best results fishing for tuna. Most of the tuna have been around 10lbs average but fishing live baits has been the best way to catch larger tuna close to 30lbs. Last but not least for offshore species the mahi mahi have been plentiful but the sizes have been mixed. A lot of fish on the smaller size but there are some keeper size as well. This is great news because last year they didn’t show till later summer early fall and now we are getting them in early summer, who knows it could be a great year for them. One thing i can say with the mahi right now and this happened to us on a recent charter is make sure to have some rods rigged to cast to the mahi incase they swim up to the boat, last week on a charter we were bottom fishing around 400 feet and a turtle came up and it was full of mahi, luckly we have rods rigged at all times but if we didn’t we might of missed that chance. We ended up catching 15 mahi but only 8 keeper size but if we weren’t prepared thats 8 less fish we could of caught. Hopefully that fishery gets better and better as summer approaches. Hey everyone Capt. Vinnie here. This week has been as windy as we can possibly have here, due to a few fronts that have stalled and are sitting over top of us. Like the title says rough and windy it has been indeed. As far as the fishing goes the best way to describe it would be hit and miss lately. Some days its been excellent and other days its been tough. For the most part with the rough seas if you are able to stick it out specially with live bait you will get rewarded with quality fish. The sailfish bite has been very good for the most part but they have been scattered all over depth wise from 100-400 feet. Also with these rough seas there has been some quality sized mahi mahi, anywhere from 10-25lbs as a by catch while sail fishing. With the waves and wind kite fishing has been the best way to fish comfortably and it has been producing some nice fish. But like I stated earlier its been hit and miss, some days have been excellent with multiple sailfish catches and some nice fish for dinner as well, and other days been super tough with only 1 bite so you have to make every bite count. Trolling has been the same way as well early mornings we have been getting a little flurry of fish and then it shuts off, same goes for the afternoons too. I personally think a lot of this has to do with the amount of flying fish or bait that is in the area right now, the gamefish have a lot of choices of food to eat so that would make the most sense to me as to why kite fishing with live bait has been so successful. We did have a few afternoons this week with some blackfin tuna action as well as a nice wahoo we caught (pictured). Everyday is different and things change but it looks like for half of this week its going to stay windy, now fishing in these bigger seas is not for everyone but you do catch really good fish when its rough. Some people can handle it and some can’t. My recommendation would be to take some sort of motion sickness medication the day before your trip and then take it again the day of the trip if your prone to sea sickness. As for the fishing right now the best option of something to book is going to be a longer trip and i only say that because the fishing has been spoty and being out there longer gives you an opportunity to fish that window when the fish are going to feed, like i stated earlier this week the ones that stuck it out in the rough were rewarded handsomely. Hello, Capt. Vinnie here, another great week of deep sea fishing here in Fort Lauderdale. We had some great weather earlier in the week with calm winds and seas but this week and the week ahead looks like we will be at the mercy of the winds. What does that mean for fishing? It has been good and I have the report and the pictures to prove it. This week just like the title says the sailfish have been bitting absolutely fantastic and it has been as good as i have ever seen it. Live baiting from a kite as well as trolling has yielded great results for billfish right now. Average size has been around 70lbs with smaller and bigger one as well. All the depths has been productive but it seems like when we have current you want to be just inside of the tide line to produce the most sailfish bites. Other then sailfish right now there has been a pretty decent showing of spring mahi. The seaweed has began to show up and there has been some mahi mixed in with it, hopefully it stays at a minimum for us to be able to fish. We are also starting to see blackfin tuna be a very consistent thing trolling has been productive for getting the most action but the live bait is going to get you the quality or larger fish. Smaller tunas have been around 2-8lbs and the larger tunas on live bait have been close to 20lbs. Last for pelagic fish this week there was a few wahoo earlier in the week just before the full moon, we should start to see a few more just as we get to the back side of this full moon. This weeks bottom fishing report has been steady but some days are better then others bottom fishing wise. Vermillon snappers have been the majority catch right now but we are still seeing some large trigger fish mixed in. 200 feet has been the best depth but the fish do move around, the best conditions for bottom fishing have been when we have light winds and small seas with a light north current if you have that recipe your going to crush them!
