Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week we have a solid report for you guys, some great weather and some great fishing as well. For this week starting on the reef the trolling bite has been somewhat decent seems that there has been a small showing of some king mackerels and still a few bonitos around. Trolling with planers still remains to be the most effective specially if your looking for action. Some larger kingfish as well some close to 25lbs. Moving just off the reef there has been some pretty solid blackfin tuna action in depths around 200 to 350 feet but seems like afternoons are key if your looking for tuna they have been biting best in low light conditions, which would be early mornings and late afternoons. Small spoons and mylar squid lures have been working best on the blackfin tunas right now. Bottom fishing this week has been exceptional for deep water species like vermillion and yellow eye snappers, some of the deeper rock piles right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale have been holding some quality bottom fish right now. There hasn’t been much current so we have been able to set up accordingly on the deeper spots. A two hook rig called a chicken rig has been very effective and as far as baits go its hard to beat fresh bonito chunks. Average size on the yellow eye snappers has been 2lbs but it has not been uncommon to catch one around 5-6lbs either. All the snappers we have been catching are excellent table fair and will make a great fish lunch or dinner. Last but not least as far as a mahi mahi report the best way to describe the bite would be here today and gone tomorrow, there has been a few mahi offshore but it is hard to pin point where there going to be every day. One thing I can say is to run and gun and look for birds. Birds are going to be the most consistent thing to bring you fish. I know it seems like every week I say the mahi should be showing up any day now but seriously it should be within the next few weeks we should start to see some consistency in the bite. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have this week of some recent catches caught while out of our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. The month of August is a great time to get out fishing specially in Fort Lauderdale so if your coming down to south Florida and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water.
