Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here, first I would like to wish everyone a happy new year! 2022 was a great year for us here at the YB Normal but 2023 should be even better. Now for the stuff you guys really want… This week the fishing out of Fort Lauderdale has been somewhat very good at times and other times making you scratch your head like what am I doing wrong. This week we have had a mix of all types of weather, one day its super windy and rough seas and the next flat calm and not a breath of wind, we also have had a mix of fish biting right now. Bottom fishing has been somewhat decent with lots of vermillion snappers and some of the biggest trigger fish we have seen, up to 6lbs. Snapper and trigger fish are just a small portion of great eating species that we catch off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. On the edge of the reef kite fishing while using live bait has been the ticket I would say, using live goggle eyes fished from a kite has been productive for sailfish right now as well as kingfish and bonito, but in order to fish a kite you need wind and some days we had plenty of wind and other days wind was barely there and thats where the bottom fishing came into play. There was a few mahi mahi, skipjack and blackfin tuna around earlier in the week in depths around 400 feet which is always a nice bonus in the winter time. Trolling has been somewhat slow and seems to be wahoo or bust, I would imagine there would be some wahoo coming up here shortly due to the full moon happening later this week. Fishing the wrecks just off the coast has been productive for larger amberjack, live bait is key for this as well and heavy tackle is a must. Amberjack are one of the hardest fighting fish we have in Fort Lauderdale and they will definitely test your skills as an angler. This week be sure to check out some of our great photos of some recent catches we have been having during our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale, and remember to give us a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. The winter time fishing seems to be in full effect, sailfish are around, tuna are around and a few mahi mahi to boot, all that is missing is you so if your coming down to Florida specially Fort Lauderdale or Hollywood area and looking to do some deep sea fishing we would love to have you. Busy week this week for us so be on the look out for a new report soon….more later
