Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here this week we are going to stay with the theme from the last few weeks, bottom fishing has been red hot off the coast of fort Lauderdale right now. Lots of really nice sized vermilion, yellow eye, and red snapper being caught right now. Also in the mix a few gray trigger fish. All of these species being caught right now are excellent on the dinner table pretty much anyway you cook them, in my opinion fried with crispy breading is always a winner. Majority of these bottom dwellers are being caught on deep water structure as deep as 500 feet. Now off the coast of fort Lauderdale you don’t have to go very far offshore in order to reach these depths which is a great perk if you happen to book a 4 hour or half day charter. Small pieces of cut bonito or squid has been the best bait to choose from as well as fishing a multiple hook rig also called a chicken rig, when dropping baits as deep as 500 feet you want to use a bait that stays on the hook very well after a few bites and using 2 to 3 hooks is going to maximize your chances of catching fish. This is a very fun style of fishing but alot of work but I think its well worth the reward. With this full moon in early December there has been a fair amount of wahoo around right now while trolling in depths from 180 feet on out to 500 feet, also early mornings and late afternoons have had some blackfin tuna and skipjack tuna. Swordfishing remains strong right now off the coast of Fort Lauderdale and should remains very steady up until the end of February. Definitely a great time to knock a bucket list item off the list if your looking to catch a swordfish. Last but not least sailfish, these guys are starting to show up primarily eating live baits fished under kites, or slow trolling live baits right on the edge. I would imagine that the sailfish action should start to heat up with the next cold front that we receive. This week we have some great photos of some recent catches caught during our deep sea fishing charters so be sure to check those out, and give us a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. We have a pretty busy week coming up so should have a report for you guys very soon but we still have plenty of availbilty during the week of Christmas so if you are coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking for a Christmas gift for someones of even something to do fishing is always a great choice so be sure to look us up.
