Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, I have a good fishing report to start off the month of march so lets get started… Finally we have made it to March which means spring fishing is right around the corner and fishing should be heating up, this weeks report seems to be that we are getting a little taste of spring time fishing which is very exciting. Starting on the offshore side of things nice sized mahi mahi have been around somewhat not in numbers like the summer time fishery but quality has been prevalent. There is no specific way to target the fish now they are somewhat of a random lucky thing but trolling on the deeper side of things like 500 plus feet has been a good area to give a shot. Moving a tad bit inshore of that wahoo have been prevalent on the lines we are fishing under the surface with planers, seawitches and bonito strips are a deadly combo for them as well as a ballyhoo rigged for swimming, while trolling the depths where the wahoo have been specially in the afternoons there has been some larger sized blackfin tuna around which is always fun to catch and great on the dinner table to, they have been feeding best on small spoons in blue color as well as feathers and smaller squid skirt type lures. Bonito are starting to become abundant which is a great sign of our spring time fishing approaching, there has been pretty consistent action as of late on a wide variety of fish. Moving on to the bottom fishing, there has been a pretty heavy current lately which makes great conditions for trolling or live baiting with kites but not so great for bottom fishing. On days when the current lets up vermillion snapper have been in large size on sunken ship wrecks and rock piles, doing best on them with cut pieces of bonito is the best bait to get there attention, also amberjack are starting to show up on shipwrecks and live bait is key for them, amberjack are hard fighters so heavy tackle is a must to get there head turned away from the structure. All in all this week fishing is definitely heating up and it should improve more and more as we head towards April, Lots of different options of fish to catch in Fort Lauderdale right now, be sure to check out our great pictures of some recent catches we had this week during our Sportfishing charters, also remember to follow us on social media platforms like Facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Cant wait to see what next week has in store….more later… Capt. Vinnie 954 559 4700
