Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here…This week fishing in Fort Lauderdale has definitely picked up in a positive way, nice variety of fish biting right now and it should get better as we move closer towards March and April. Starting out on the offshore side of things trolling has been a lot more productive then the last few weeks. It has been somewhat windy the last few days in Fort Lauderdale and that seems to be what we needed in order to get the fish biting, the depth of 200 feet seems to be the magic number right now lots of very nice sized mahi mahi have been biting as of late and trolling or live bait has been best. Even though its technically not mahi season they have been around the last few days and thats a great sign, most of the mahi we have been catching are averaging around 15lbs which is a great fish. Mahi are in my opinion the ultimate gamefish, they have great colors and markings they also love to jump and they taste great on the dinner table. The wahoo are still around also, trolling has been best for them like always depths from 180 to 300 feet is where they have been biting. Afternoons have been producing some nice sized blackfin tuna, trolling with planners out to take our baits down under the surface of the water has been the best way to target them, small spoons for bait have been working best and depths deeper then 200 feet is where they have been biting the best. Moving inshore a bit wreck fishing is starting to pick up somewhat, the amberjack have been holding on some of the wrecks located just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, amberjack are great fish to catch and eat, amberjack are hard fighters are usually take live baits fairly easy but we have been catching a few of them on vertical jigs which makes it alot of fun to fight. As for bottom fishing this week I haven’t done much so I don’t have an accurate report on that but the few times I did try it was fairly slow so I would assume as we approach spring time it will pick up heavily. Its nice to see that there are some fish starting to move through the Fort Lauderdale area, these are all great signs for some great spring fishing coming up, be sure to check out some of the great pictures this week of some great catches caught during our fishing charters in Fort Lauderdale.
