Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here and just like the title sys the fishing has been outstanding this week, so lets get to the report. This week fishing offshore has been the ticket by offshore I mean 7 to 15 miles offshore the target species has been mahi mahi, some people know them as dolphin as well. A great fish to target, they jump, they fight hard and most important they taste very very good. The dolphin have been very plentiful this week just off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, but you have to go offshore like I stated earlier, meaning that a 4 hour trip or half day is not enough time, 6 to 8 hours will suffice just fine. The dolphin that we have been catching have been being located mostly on floating debris like seaweed although there has been few floating objects around as well like wood pallets and pieces of bamboo. The target depth has been around 900 feet of water. Surface baits have been the best bet such as seawitches and bonito strips as well as small feathers, while trolling down the weed line or if you find some kind of floating objects a planner is a good idea to put out incase there are feisty wahoo underneath, a small spoon works best. Also offshore there has been a fair amount of tuna, mostly skipjack but some blackfin as well. Most people are not familiar with skipjack tuna but majority of canned tuna fish is this, they are hard fighters and have beautiful colors. Moving inshore towards the reef there hasn’t been much action some small bonito as well as a few kingfish and sailfish that are starting to show up. Bottom fishing has been somewhat tough this week but it should pick up shortly with the next cold front. This week there are some great photos of recent catches so be sure to check those out. If your thinking about coming down to fort Lauderdale to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time and not to mention the fish are biting. We have some availability for the month of October still so if your looking to go deep sea fishing we would love to have you.
