Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here hope everyone is doing well! As the report title says mahi mahi are here in Fort Lauderdale finally after a somewhat long wait the dolphin fishing has been red hot off the coast of Fort Lauderdale so lets get right into it, Dolphin have been plentiful and very good size as of late the fish have been averaging around 10lbs, mahi are a great fighting fish as well as some of the best table fair that you can get, they also are very acrobatic with lots of great jumps and beautiful colors whats not to love right. The mahi have been somewhat further offshore this week so the ideal trip would be an 8 hour deep sea fishing charter because the extra time helps you get way offshore into the gulfstream waters if need be to find the fish. The fish we have been finding this week have been on a variety of different things the most consistent has been birds, finding birds offshore is a great way to tell you that there is life around in the area, birds have a better vantage point to locate fish due to them being higher up in the sky and having more range of vision to locate feeding fish, finding a flock of feeding birds near the surface is a great sign that a bite is coming soon, also this week we did finding a floating palm tree when offshore looking for mahi and something floating is always a great way to locate mahi offshore as well, floating objects hold bait which mahi feed on, so if you locate something floating and it has baitfish on it the predators are not far behind. The best depth this week on the dolphin has been anywhere from 800-1000 feet of water off the coast of Fort Lauderdale. Moving inshore the reef has been somewhat productive with super hungry bonito almost every morning eating anything in there way. Also kingfish have been biting as well and some larger size ones also, some days in the early mornings and late afternoons blackfin tuna as well have been making an appearance, All in all fishing this week has been red hot with a variety of different species to target, as far as best baits or lures this week goes when offshore targeting mahi mahi, fresh rigged ballyhoo, as well as mylar sea witches rigged with bonito strips has been a deadly combination, inshore small squid lures have been best for the bonito and the tuna, the kingfish have been feeding under the surface and planners are going to be the best bet to take baits under the surface for them. This week has been a busy one but we have some great photos this week of some awesome recent catches aboard the YB Normal so please make sure to check those out, We have some availability next week some if your in the Fort Lauderdale area and looking to do some deep sea fishing now is a great time!
